Where Do You Begin Once You Have Decided?
- Consider all the seasons. Look at the weather patterns summer, winter spring and fall. I knew each of the areas I was considering in spring, summer and fall….needed to see the winter!
- Look at new states and what each have to offer. I looked and Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. Montana had Flathead Lake (which is like a sea! Largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi). It has Mountains (skiing and hiking), it has agriculture.
- Look at all the different areas in the zone you are considering. I looked at Whitefish, Bigfork, Finley Pt., Lakeside, Flathead Valley and more.
You will know when it ticks the boxes of location, amenities, conveniences, square footage and beds and baths.
Here is a look of the summary of my journey.

Hi, Cyndi!
We love where we ended up, here in Penn Valley, in the California foothills. Our son lives in the area, and, until recently, one of my sisters had a property here. It’s between the Bay Area, from where we moved, and Lake Tahoe. Family and friends in both areas. We considered moving to Oregon. So pretty and less expensive. Loved the Oregon coastline, until we saw online that the rainfall is 80-120 inches a year! No can do! If we make another move it will be out of California. Hmmmmm…
